DU VC Yogesh Singh gets additional charge as AICTE chairman

The additional charge will remain in effect until a regular AICTE chairman is appointed or until further orders, the education ministry said.
Yogesh Singh, vice chancellor of University of Delhi, has been given the additional charge of chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), as per an official statement by the Ministry of Education (MoE).
The additional charge will remain in effect until a regular AICTE chairman is appointed or until further order, the ministry said. The post of the AICTE chairman was vacant after TG Sitharam's tenure ended on December 20, following which he was relieved of his duties.
“Prof. Yogesh Singh is a renowned academician with excellent administrative capabilities, who has been the Vice-Chancellor of University of Delhi since October 2021. He has also served as the chairperson of the National Council for Teacher Education,” the official statement reads.
In August 2023, Singh was given the additional charge of director of School of Planning and Architecture (SPA). He has also served as the VC of Delhi Technological University from 2015 to 2021.

The DU VC has also served as a director of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, Delhi from 2014 to 2017, and before that, he was the VC of Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda (Gujarat) from 2011 to 2014.

Yogesh Singh holds a PhD in computer engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra. “He has a distinguished track record in quality teaching, innovation, and research in the field of software engineering,” the education ministry said.
Recently, the union cabinet has cleared a higher education regulatory bill - Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill 2025 , replacing the University Grants Commission (UGC), AICTE, and the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
Earlier known as the Higher Education Commission of India (HECI), the new bill will have three councils under its authority - the regulatory, accreditation and the standard council.
