Education ministry reviews National Means cum Merit Scholarship application, KYC, renewal status
The National Merit cum Means Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) form can be accessed through the National Scholarship Portal, scholarships.gov.in.

NEW DELHI: The ministry of education held a national workshop on the on National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) was held on March 10, 2023. The workshop was conducted to review the status of fresh applications and renewal of scholarship applications for the year 2022-23.
The workshop was held at at Mirza Ghalib Hall, Scope Complex, New Delhi and was attended by state education officers, state nodal officers of states and union territories. The review was presided by ministry of education, department of school education and literacy, economic adviser, A Srija.

The main objectives of the national level workshop were to conduct a status of the fresh and renewal of scholarship applications, KYC and democratic authentication for institutes, status of red flag application on the national scholarship portal (NSP), electronic register, aadhaar verified applications for the year 2022-23 and preparation to expedite registration of fresh applications and renewable applications on the scholarship portal in 2023-23.
The national means-cum merit scholarships are awarded to students that belong to the economically weaker sections in order to encourage them to continue their education at secondary stage. A total of one lakh scholarships worth Rs 12,000 per annum are given to such students.

This Central scheme gives scholarships to students whose parental income from all sources is less than Rs 3,50,000 per annum. As per the eligibility criteria, the students must have a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in Class 7 examination for appearing in the selection test for award of scholarship (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST students).
