KANNAUJ: Students of the government engineering college in Tirwa area protested on Thursday against the alleged non-payment of scholarships for the past five months, officials said. Carrying banners, the students gathered outside the college, claiming that despite repeated visits to the offices of district officials and the social welfare department, they got no resolution.

Around 710 students are enrolled at the engineering college. After hearing about the protest, Joint Magistrate Vaishali, Tirwa Circle Officer Kulveer Singh, and Tehsildar Avneesh Kumar, accompanied by a police force, reached the college.

Vaishali spoke to college director Manoj Shukla, as well as the protesting students. Students ended their agitation after an assurance that they will get their money at the earliest.
