‘Exercise due diligence’: NMC advises students seeking MBBS admissions in Kyrgyzstan

NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has advised students seeking admission to MBBS programmes in Kyrgyzstan or other foreign institutions to "exercise due diligence" in choosing where to pursue medical education from, stating that there may be some supervisory, regulatory, and infrastructural issues in these institutions that should not be overlooked before taking admissions there.

The apex medical body advised students to refer to Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) Regulations before applying or planning to seek admission in any institutions in Kyrgyzstan or other foreign institutions.

In an official notice issued on Friday, the NMC said it has come to the notice of Ministry of External Affairs that few new medical colleges have been launched in Kyrgyzstan in last year such as Avicenna University, Adam University, Royal Metro, Int’l Medical University, Salymbekov University, etc. and nearly two hundred Indian students have already been enrolled in these institutions without a single Kyrgyz student.

“In this context, any prospective student needs to be aware that there may be some supervisory, regulatory, and infrastructural issues in these institutions that should not be overlooked before taking admissions there. “Allowing overseas students on the day of the launch also runs contrary to international norms requisite to enroll foreign students,” the notice read.

“In view of the above, students are advised to exercise due diligence in choosing where to pursue medical education from," the Commission said.

Earlier, in a related development, NMC advised medical aspirants to “exercise due diligence” before applying to universities in China or anywhere else for MBBS admissions. The Commission issued a notification saying that students should be aware that China has imposed a strict travel ban in view of COVID-19 since November 2020 and various Indian students have not been able to return to China to continue their studies.
