The Fee Regulatory Authority (FRA) has asked private professional colleges in Maharashtra not to collect more than the approved fees for the 2025-26 academic year. The order applies to unaided institutions offering medical, technical, law and agriculture courses and covers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

As per the official notice, students taking first-year admission in any of these institutions are required to pay only the fee approved by the Fee Regulatory Authority. The course-wise fee details can be checked on the official website — mahafra.org — by selecting the academic year, institution, sub-type and district under the ‘Fees Information’ tab.

The same information is also available on the respective college websites. The Authority warned that if any institution is found collecting fees beyond the approved amount, students can file a complaint along with evidence by writing to the grievance committee at fragrievance@g.mail.com .

Separately, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has recently revised the MBBS and BDS fee structure for the 2025-26 academic year, reducing fees across government and private colleges. Karnataka offers 3,750 government and 7,995 private MBBS seats — the highest in any state — followed by Tamil Nadu with 6,375 private seats.

In contrast, several deemed universities across the country have raised MBBS fees. More than 30 now charge over Rs 1 crore in tuition alone. Sree Balaji Medical College, Chennai, has set its fee at Rs 30.5 lakh per annum. With the NEET UG counselling process ongoing, candidates can check the latest fee details through the institutes’ official websites before submitting their choices.
