Fresh guidelines for CLAT 2020: Travel pass, COVID+ve candidates barred, and much more

NEW DELHI: The CLAT conducting body, Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has released a series of additional guidelines for candidates appearing in the national-level exam. These include travel advisory for Chhattisgarh candidates, the status for COVID positive candidates, revised exam instructions and others. CLAT 2020 is scheduled to be conducted in online centre-based mode on September 28, from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M.

COVID positive candidate will not be allowed to take CLAT 2020

Considering the safety concerns of other candidates, the consortium has said that it will not permit COVID positive candidates to appear in the exam. Candidates who are under COVID related medical surveillance or in isolation will also not be allowed to appear in the examination.

Special pass for Chhattisgarh candidates

In a separate notification released for Chhattisgarh candidates, the consortium has assured candidates affected by the lockdown announced in the state that it is working with the state government to find a solution to the issue.

The notification reads “In the wake of the lockdown announced in Chhattisgarh, the CLAT Consortium is working with the state government to allow candidates to travel to the test centres by using their ADMIT CARD as pass. Candidates are requested to carry their admit card and photo identity card and produce them when requested”.

No calculator in CLAT

Earlier, while conducting the mock tests, the consortium had allowed candidates to use an on-screen calculator for solving questions. This led to a misconception that unlike previous years, the consortium may allow the candidates to use calculators. However, clearing all speculations, the consortium has clarified that the on-screen calculators during mock tests were placed inadvertently. The use of calculators (onscreen, manual, watch or in any other way) was never permitted in CLAT and this year too, the use of calculators will not be allowed.

CLAT 2020 revised instructions

The exam authorities have released a set of exam day instructions for the candidates appearing in the CLAT 2020. The details are as follows.

• The candidates should report at the allotted exam centre at least 1 hour before the commencement of the exam. And, entry to the test centre will be closed after 15 minutes of the commencement of the examination. This means that the reporting time at the test centre would be from 1:00 PM to 2:15 PM.

• Inside the CLAT exam hall, candidates will be provided with rough sheets. They will have to write their roll number on top of each rough sheet and will have to dump the same in a drop-box after the examination.

• Any malpractices in CLAT 2020 exam, including giving or taking help from other candidates, copying or using any other unfair means are strictly prohibited.

Things you can carry at CLAT test centre

• CLAT Admit Card

• Any Photo I.D. Proof issued by the Government.

• Blue/Black Ball Pen

• Self-Health Declaration

• Disability Certificate for PWD candidates

• Transparent water bottle

• Own mask, gloves and personal hand sanitizer (50ml).

Items prohibited at the test centre

Candidates appearing in CLAT 2020 will not be allowed to carry any kind of electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, headphones, watches, calculator, etc. Those carrying mobile phones or any other prohibited items will be asked to deposit such items outside the exam centre. The staff at the test centre will not be responsible for the safekeeping of such items.

CLAT 2020: The test structure

Candidates appearing for CLAT UG will have to answer 150 questions that will be asked from various comprehension passages. Those appearing in CLAT LLM will have 120 questions which will be asked from common legal subjects of the graduation level.

Each question will carry one mark and for each incorrect answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted from the overall score.
