The teachers’ body, Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF), has demanded an “impartial inquiry” into the “over-admissions” facilitated in select departments under the extracurricular activities (ECA) and sports categories at the Hindu College.

The Hindu College had already conceded that these excess admissions were “inadvertent,” and despite the college’s statutory bodies flagging the error, the principal allegedly “misled and pressured” them to carry out the over-admissions.

DTF further alleged that these admissions were made through “procedural violations”, bypassing the rules established to ensure fairness in the admissions process.

“If statutory bodies were overridden after they had identified a clear breach of the University’s regulations, the incident reflects a serious erosion of institutional checks and balances,” the DTF said in its statement.

‘No-confidence’ motion against principal

Recently, the Hindu College Staff Association held a meeting on August 18 and adopted a resolution regarding the alleged malpractices during admissions through sports and the ECA quota.

Claiming the over-admissions, the staff expressed “no confidence” in the principal and demanded an “impartial enquiry” into rule violations and “possible corrupt practice”.

However, the Hindu College principal Anju Srivastava rejected the allegations and pointed out that seat allocations have been done by Delhi University and that she had no role in the process apart from giving final approvals.

DTF demands independent inquiry

The teacher’s body has demanded an independent, time-bound enquiry into the “questionable authorisation of these admissions”.

The enquiry should also examine the role of any other official (college or university) who may have facilitated the overadmissions and establish the chain of administrative approvals that allowed the dubious process to conclude.

Furthermore, all relevant admission records and minutes of statutory body meetings must be secured immediately to prevent tampering and therefore make an impartial enquiry possible, it said. The teachers’ body has also demanded that an enquiry report be submitted within the given timeframe of fifteen days and be placed before the University’s Executive Council.
