IGNOU launches MA in Sustainability Science programme in ODL mode

NEW DELHI: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a Master of Arts in Sustainability Science (MASS) programme. The course will be offered in January 2022 admission in Online Distance Learning (ODL) mode at School of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies.
The eligibility criteria to apply for MA in Sustainability Science is a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university or institution. Interested students can apply for the programme at the official website - ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.

After successful completion of first year courses, the programme will be provided with Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainability Science.
The programme is In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focuses on holistic and multidisciplinary education and adopts lateral entry and multiple exit options, said an official statement from IGNOU .

“The major objective of this programme is to provide opportunities to the learners to deepen their knowledge and understanding about sustainable development and the principles of sustainability science,” the IGNOU statement said.
MASS: Employment Opportunities
- MASS will equip the students as professional sustainability experts, project officers, Sustainability Analysts, etc.
- The programme is for students who are interested to continue their research in multidisciplinary fields.
- The programme will enhance the potential of freelance writers and journalists in the field of sustainable development.

The basics of natural resource management, ecological economics, global and local efforts for sustainable development through good governance, law and policy are integrated in the MASS programme structure to enable the learners to undertake sustainable development projects. There is a course on Sustainable Development Goals, too.
