IIIT Delhi launches new BTech programme in electronics, VLSI engineering

BTech in electronics, VLSI engineering (EVE) is an addition to the currently exiting electronics and communication engineering programme at IIIT Delhi.
NEW DELHI: Indraprastha Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT) Delhi launches a new programme in BTech in electronics and very large-scale integration (VLSI) engineering (EVE).
The Institute will be introducing the course in the EE+X format for the first time, the 'EE' stands for electronics engineering while the 'X' stands for other fields of technology or knowledge complimenting electrical engineering. The EVE programme will be preparing the student for a career in the technology industry, pursue further studies for a research career or even undertake entrepreneurial activities.
IIIT Delhi aims to balance between a fixed set of VLSI-specific core courses while also maintaining flexibility of students selecting interest-based courses. The curriculum for the course covers basic applied and theoretical aspects of engineering and also develops problem solving skills in students. The course starts with computing and electronics courses first, and allows the possibility of doing other science courses later. Students will also be offered elective courses along five career paths in the VLSI industry and academia.

IIIT Delhi, electronics and communication engineering department, associate professor, Anuj Grover, said: "The country is facing a severe shortage of skilled workforce in the semiconductor industry. It needs more than 85,000 VLSI engineers in the next few years to make the vision of a more self-reliant India possible. In April 2022, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) released a notification encouraging institutes to start UG programs in VLSI design and technology. IIIT-Delhi is also exploring ways to expose EVE students to semiconductor manufacturing (fabrication) and is planning to set up a fabrication facility or forge partnerships with existing facilities in the region. This exposure will further distinguish the students from the graduates from other institutes’’
