NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow organised the G20 University Connect Session on August 10 at its campus. The IIM Lucknow G20 University Connect Session was held in collaboration with the research and innovation system (RIS) for developing countries and the ministry of external affairs (MEA), Indian government.

IIM Lucknow hosted a series of college events to engage and involve the youth in the discussions surrounding the forthcoming summit. Activities including G20 quiz, article writing competition, model G20 summit and pottery-making competition for students were also organised.

The G20 University Connect Session started with the premiere of the official G20 video, showing India's Presidency and highlighting the theme of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (One Earth, One Family, One Future).

The University Connect Session facilitated conversations about global economic challenges and opportunities while enabling an exchange of ideas to guide the youth of the nation.

Archana Shukla, the director of IIM Lucknow, opened the event by expressing her appreciation to RIS and MEA for allowing the institute to host the University Connect. Shukla emphasised collaborative efforts among member nations to address critical issues such as sustainability, energy, climate, security, and peace. “The resonance of the IIML motto with our national ideology of producing socially responsible leaders,” the IIM Lucknow director further added.

Sanjay Bhattacharyya, secretary of MEA, Government of India, and former ambassador to Switzerland, Turkey, and Egypt started the lecture series by giving an address speech on the genesis of the G20, India's priorities for its Presidency, and the role of young individuals in this global discourse.

Bhattacharyya focussed on the nation's seven priorities for the 2030 agenda, on areas such as climate financing, food security, and the fulfilment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Anand Maheshwari, former IPS Officer 1984 and director general Central Reserve Police Force highlighted the importance of management. “Constantly learn about the new vectors of success from the SWOT analysis of the G20 nations,” said the former IPS officer.

Balu Kenchappa, regional director of Reserve Bank of India, Lucknow, talked about the role of different countries like the US, Japan and China, in the financial development of the world as a whole and told the participants about how India is in the phase of growth.
