IIT Bombay awards degrees to 261 students at its 60th convocation

IIT Bombay: Krishna M Ella, chairman of Bharat Biotech, inventor of Covaxin was the chief guest
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay awarded degrees to 261 students at the institute’s 60th convocation which was held offline in the presence of the students who received the degree. This is the first physical programme being held on the IIT Bombay campus in the past two years. Students, faculty members, families and friends of the students attended the ceremony.
Krishna M Ella, chairman and managing director of Bharat Biotech, who is also the inventor of Covaxin, was the chief guest of the IIT Bombay’s 60th convocation event. A total of 284 degrees were awarded to 209 IIT Bombay students at the convocation event which included PhD, dual degrees, MTech+PhD, MSc+PhD. Similarly, 95 degrees including BTech, BDes, BS, MTech, MDes, Mphil., MSc, PGDIIT, among others were awarded to 68 students.

Ella, in his speech, talked about the relevance of clinical research. He urged the students, “to be an innovator and not copy, start with a startup and be a lifelong knowledge seeker, keen observer, and be passionate of solving societal problems”.
“IITs have convinced me that the caliber of researchers and innovators in India is as good as anywhere else in the world. I urge you to translate that caliber into scientific discovery that will make the world a better place to live in and to never go too far from Science and Technology. This is where the action is and is going to continue to be,” said Pawan Goenka, chairman of the board of governors at IIT Bombay.

Subhasis Chaudhuri, director of IIT Bombay congratulated the students said, “This being the first fully physical event in the campus in last two years, it was a delight to see the sea of joy among the graduates and their relatives in the Convocation Hall. I am sure that our graduates will work hard to solve our societal problems”.
