IIT Delhi: First batch completes STEM mentorship programme for high school girls
IITD: As many as 10 government school students from the Delhi region were selected for the programme; students were given certificates.

NEW DELHI: The STEM Mentorship Program conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi's Academic Outreach and New Initiatives office was successfully completed by the first batch of Class 11 girl students. The students were given certificates by IIT Delhi. IITD launched the STEM Mentorship Program in December 2021 with the objective to encourage schoolgirls to pursue a career in science and technology.
As many as 10 government school students from the Delhi region were selected for the programme, under which, the enrolled students were mentored and guided by the faculty at IIT Delhi for seven months. They worked on different project topics like artificial photosynthesis, water reuse using nanotechnology, theoretical computer science, artificial intelligence, climate change, brain mapping and neuroscience, optics, vibrations in engineering and engineering of human joint implants.

The IIT Delhi STEM programme for school-going girl students included a winter internship that lasted from December 2021 to January 2022, an online lecture series by IIT Delhi faculty that was held from the month of February to April and a summer project that lasted from May to June.
"I really liked interacting with the faculty and Ph.D. students at IIT Delhi during the STEM Mentorship Program. I got to learn new things which developed my research interests. Especially, the online lecture series was very useful to learn about concepts, which are not taught in school curriculum. The program has helped me to decide the discipline in which I would like to pursue my higher studies," said Sanmita Paul, a students who participated in the IIT Delhi STEM programme.
