IIT Delhi holds 18th Open House 2025; over 3,500 visitors attend sessions on AI, robotics, biotechnology

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi held the 18th edition of its Open House on November 8, 2025. The event aimed to provide exposure to the research conducted by students and faculty, presenting it to school and college students, funding agencies, and industry representatives.

As per the institute, around 3,500 visitors attended the event, which featured over 200 scientific posters, live demonstrations, and access to 20 laboratories. The presentations and projects covered areas including computer science, artificial intelligence, defence, national security, healthcare, biotechnology, energy, sustainability, quantum and semiconductor technologies, communication systems, management, and fundamental sciences.

Projects showcased included 3D mapping using 2D LiDAR, automatic detection and grading of celiac disease, energy-efficient electrochromic smart windows, next-generation gas sensors, sustainable apparel from textile waste, research on memory and decision-making, herbal medicine studies, and rapid test kits for quality assurance of food and feed commodities.

Sessions on AI, robotics, and manufacturing

According to the official press release, the event focused on 10 themes, including Healthcare, Biotechnology; Manufacturing, Industry 4.0, and Robotics; Smart and Sustainable Infrastructure; Advanced Material and Devices; Energy, Climate & Sustainability; Quantum & Semiconductor Technologies; Next Generation Communication; Management, Policy, Social Sciences; AI-ML/Data Science/Algorithms; and Fundamental Science.

The Open House also hosted sessions and talks on topics such as AI, robotics, manufacturing, and the Indian biotechnology ecosystem. The event provided opportunities for students and visitors to explore research applications, understand emerging technologies, and consider potential collaboration between academia and industry.

Promoting scientific awareness and collaboration

The institute states that by demonstrating current research initiatives and laboratory capabilities, IIT Delhi aims to create awareness of scientific and technological developments, encourage interdisciplinary problem-solving, and foster engagement with young students and the broader research community.

Chief Guest Padma Shri Ashutosh Sharma, former DST Secretary, delivered the keynote address titled “What Makes S&T Work (or Not!)” at the Open House 2025.

Shambhavi, a Class 12 student from Amity School, Noida, said, “It was inspiring to see how new research is solving real-life problems. The Open House motivated me to learn more about science and technology and be part of future innovations.”

Rangan Banerjee, the director of IIT Delhi, said, "We are keen to develop long-term partnerships with industry and society in our goal to enhance impact through education, research, and innovation. Today’s Open House showcases our existing research and collaboration. We hope that this will result in enhanced partnerships for mutual benefit.
