IIT Delhi to set up Vipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi distinguished fellowship
IIT Delhi signed an agreement with Vipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi foundation to attract “outstanding talent” from abroad.

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi has signed an agreement with the Vipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi foundation to set up the Vipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi distinguished fellowship. The fellowship will help bring “outstanding talent” from abroad to IIT Delhi . The institute has received one crore from the foundation to establish the fellowship.
Mahesh Chaturvedi, founder of Vipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi foundation, retired from IIT Delhi in 1986 and has introduced water resources engineering in India.
“The awardee will receive an annual grant of Rs 12 lakhs to support his or her research and the fellowship will initially be awarded for five years,” a statement from IIT Delhi said.
Vivek Pathak, trustee of Vipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi foundation said: “...The Chaturvedi Foundation would like to help IIT Delhi in its drive to move to the next level of performance by putting in place a scheme that would facilitate attracting outstanding talent to the Institute”.

Ramgopal Rao, director of IIT Delhi said: “The institute has in the last few years set up new academic units and programs in materials, AI, energy, transportation, electric vehicles, design etc. and we hope this Fellowship will help us attract top researchers from around the world and provide a fillip to these initiatives”.
Earlier, the foundation had established a chair in policy studies at IIT Delhi through which Ambuj Sagar moved from Harvard to IIT Delhi and led the setting up of the School of public policy.
