Under IIT Delhi’s IIT-PAL initiative, chemistry coordinator visits 4 schools in Mizoram to inspire students towards STEM careers

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi organised a visit to Mizoram schools and colleges under the IIT-PAL (Professor Assisted Learning) initiative taken by the institute in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

JEE Advanced 2025: College Predictor
The aim was to bring up science education in Northeast India’s remote areas from an early age, and to make students familiar with the journey ahead for taking up science/engineering stream and preparation with IIT-PAL.
Ravi P Singh, national coordinator for chemistry for IIT-PAL, visited Navodaya Vidyalaya-Mamit, PM Shri Navodaya Vidyalaya-Thingsulthliah, PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya-Zemabawk, and the Mizoram University campus. He conducted informal technical sessions each day, followed by a showcase of “exciting” scientific experiments.
The concepts involved in the scientific experiments brought forth a lot of curiosity from the students, as per an official statement. The IIT Delhi Northeast outreach programme was organised with a primary objective of enhancing the students’ understanding of scientific principles and encouraging them to take up science and technology as a career option.
Students of Classes 11 and 12 received video lectures on science and technology, created by IIT professors and subject matter experts. The programme also offers competitive exam preparation, online doubt-clearing, problem-solving sessions, and live interactions.

The videos as part of IIT Delhi’s programme for school outreach are telecasted on the MoE’s Swayam Prabha Channels. These videos can also be accessed on Doordarshan DTH Channel 22.
Talking about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in Northeast, Singh said, “These workshops aim to go beyond traditional classroom learning by providing students with opportunities to explore scientific concepts, develop critical thinking skills, and potentially inspire them to pursue STEM fields. A strong emphasis on STEM careers and its persuasion can empower them to apply their ideas for the betterment of society.”
