Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi researchers have developed a mobile robot called "Robomuse 5.0," designed to carry loads weighing up to 100 kg and can move objects from one place to another, said a statement from IIT Delhi on Friday. The robot is designed in such a way for which it can be controlled and navigate easily.
Robomuse 5.0 technology has been licensed to SVR InfoTech, a Pune-based company, through a partnership with IIT Delhi's Technology Innovation Hub.
The robot's origin dates back to a project by IIT Delhi students for the Doordarshan-Robocon (DDR) competition in 2008, which has undergone modifications over the years. Later, the robot was installed in the institute's Student Activity Center (SAC) to operate autonomously for 24 hours until it was reported non-functional.

Robomuse underwent several modifications over the next few years as part of BTech and MTech projects, based on the feedback received. The work was carried out under supervision of SK Saha, department of mechanical engineering at IIT Delhi.
"Robomuse 5.0, with its ROS (Robot Operating System)-enabled features, has a modular mechanical design with a zero turning radius. As a result, autonomous navigation and control are very simple," said Saha.
The robot was displayed by the IIT Delhi at exhibitions and conferences earlier in the year, and its software has been copyrighted.
