IIT Jodhpur hosts international conference on artificial general intelligence systems

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IITJ) conducted the 'Next-gen AI: Inspiration from Brain science' (NAiBS-2023) international conference from January 26 to 28, 2023. The primary aim of the conference was to deliberate on artificial general intelligence (AGI) systems.

Over 100 participants from different institutes including IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, Imperial college London, Friedrich-Schiller- Univetsitat Jena, University of Petroleum Studies Deharadun, AIIMS Delhi, IIIT Hyderabad attended the event. The international conference was hosted by academicians such as Tomaso Poggio, Nancy Kanwisher, Susan Goldin-Meadow, Subbarao Kambhampati among others.

The three-day conference had events such as summit talks, round-table discussions and poster presentations on the research from core AI and AGI to neuroscience. NAiBS 2023 conference gave a platform to national and international experts to speak about the importance of green and ethical AI along with the importance of converging modalities in the design of next-gen AI systems.

A few of the models of brain functioning discussed at the conference include language development, learning, memory, visual perception, object recognition, perception, attention, ageing, multi-sensory processing, brain imaging, nature of inspired algorithms, theoretical and computational neuroscience, intelligent machines that mimic human performance and cognitive computing for assistive technologies among others.

The director at IIT Jodhpur, Santanu Chaudhury, set up the agenda for the future of next-gen AI through his talk on ‘Context’ in designing next-gen AI systems. As he said that grounding in context is essential for developing next Gen AI.
