New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing the convocation ceremony of the 54th Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur on December 28. In a tweet, Modi asked people to share their suggestions for his address. IIT Kanpur will be hosting the 54th convocation in a hybrid mode. Students who attend the ceremony virtually will receive their degrees through speed post, the institute said.

IIT Kanpur informed students who wish to attend the conovation in person that the ceremony will be held in the institute's auditorium in three sessions. Also, the students can attend the ceremony virtually on the online platform to be made available.

"I look forward to being at IIT Kanpur on the 28th of this month to address the convocation ceremony. This is a vibrant institution, which has made pioneering contributions towards science and innovation. I invite everyone to share suggestions," the prime minister tweeted.

Session I will accommodate at the most 300 to 350 UG and PG students in the auditorium. These students will be selected by lottery from among the students who have submitted the Online Registration Form for Convocation and are willing to attend the Convocation in person. The remaining students shall be accommodated in the Lecture Hall(s) where a live webcast of the ceremony will be made available, IIT Kanpur said in an official notice.

Awards, prizes and medals, except for the ones conferred in Session 1, will be conferred in Session 2, scheduled from 4pm to 5pm. Whereas, the degree certificates will be distributed in different Lecture Halls in the Lecture Hall Complex in Session3, which will be held between 6 pm to 8 pm. The Department wise degree distribution schedule will be notified in due course.

IIT Kanpur will also be conducting a full-scale rehearsal of the first two sessions of the convocation ceremony on Monday, December 27.

It is mandatory for graduating students to ensure that they are fully vaccinated with two doses of COVID-19 vaccine, and should produce a negative RT PCR test report issued no more than 24 hours before the date of travel to Kanpur, the institute informed.

President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal (UG 5 Year programme),Director’s Gold Medal (PG 4 Year programme),Ratan Swarup Memorial Prize, Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma Medal are the proposed to be conferred in Session 1.

Recently, IIT Kanpur organized a two-day workshop on "Just Energy Transition" under the leadership of Pradip Swarnakar, HSS, IIT Kanpur. "It is the first step towards India’s commitment to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change," the institute said.
