IIT Kharagpur, C-DOT to develop prototypes for 10 Gb optical network

The agreement between IIT Kharagpur and C-DOT will be financed by the Telecom Technology Development Fund scheme.
NEW DELHI: Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kharagpur) have signed an agreement for developing prototypes for 10-gigabit-capable symmetric passive optical network (XGS-PON), optical line terminal (OLT) and optical network unit (ONU).
The agreement is signed under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) scheme of the department of telecommunications, which is a scheme for providing funding support to domestic companies and institutions involved in technology design, development, commercialisation of telecommunication products and solutions to enable affordable broadband and mobile services in rural and remote areas.
It is envisioned that the project will yield new design, development, and commercialisation of the state-of-the-art 10 Gbps upstream and downstream access network technology solution. This will facilitate growth of affordable broadband and mobile services in India.
The event was attended by assistant professor Aneek Adhya from IIT Kharagpur. Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO, C-DOT and directors of C-DOT Pankaj Kumar Dalela and Shikha Srivastava were also present during the agreement signing ceremony. Both C-DOT and IIT-K expressed their enthusiasm and reiterated their firm commitments towards taking this engagement further.

CDOT is the premier Telecom research and development centre of the department of telecommunications (DoT) of the union government.
LAst week, IIT Kharagpur inked a pact with Ericsson for joint research in the area of artificial intelligence, computing and radio. Under the collaboration, two agreements were inked between both organisations which will allow researchers from both sides to collaborate towards developing novel AI and distributed computing technology towards 6G research.
