IIT Madras Admission 2026: Applications open for MTech, MSc, MA; apply by April 27

IIT Madras PG Application 2026: Admission to MTech and MA programmes will be based on GATE scores, while MSc admission will be based on IIT JAM scores
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Madras) has opened registrations for its postgraduate programmes, including MTech, MSc and MA programmes for 2026. Eligible students can apply for these IIT Madras PG courses on the official website, mtechadm.iitm.ac.in, until April 27.
The IIT Madras PG application form 2026 will be available only online. To complete the registration, candidates from SC, ST, PwD, and the female category will have to pay an IITM PG application fee of Rs 300, while all other candidates are required to pay Rs 600.
Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, architecture, or a four-year BS or BSc degree from AICTE or government-approved institutions, or a master’s degree in chemistry, life sciences, mathematics, physics, or related subjects from UGC or government-approved institutions are eligible to apply for IIT Madras admission 2026.
IIT graduates with a BTech degree and a CGPA of 8.0 (on a scale of 10) or above can apply for the IIT Madras PG admission 2026 without a GATE score.

IIT Madras PG Admission 2026: Seats
IIT Madras admission for MTech and MA programmes will be done through online counselling via COAP, based on GATE scores (GATE 2024, GATE 2025, or GATE 2026), CGPA, and department review, and candidates must register on the COAP 2026 portal, as seat allotment will be handled by IIT Roorkee. For IIT Madras MSc admission 2026, candidates will be selected based on their IIT JAM scores.
Candidates who are allotted a seat in the IIT Madras PG course must report to the college on July 20. The orientation for the IIT Madras PG programme will be held on July 22, and classes will commence on July 27.
IIT Madras offers MTech programmes in fields such as aerospace engineering, data science and AI, electric vehicles, robotics, semiconductor materials technology, and ocean engineering, among others.
The institute also offers MA programmes in English studies, development studies, economics, and public policy, along with MSc programmes in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. In total, there are 735 seats for MTech, 170 seats for MSc, and 100 seats for MA.
Eligible Indian students can get financial support through Half-Time Teaching Assistantships (HTTA) of Rs 12,400 per month. IIT Madras also offers fellowships like the DAE-GF, which provides Rs 35,000 per month and assured placement in a DAE unit after course completion. Further, the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) sponsors up to 10 students in the MTech programme.
