IIT Madras, National Defence College to offer executive MBA in strategic leadership and public policy

The one-year MBA programme will be taught to 120 officers from armed forces, civil services, police, other Indian departments and foreign officers.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has partnered with the National Defence College (NDC), an inter-services training institute at New Delhi, to offer an Executive MBA programme in strategic leadership and public policy. The 48-week programme will comprise lecture-based courses and practical modules including a thesis.
“It is aimed at the intellectual development and strategic enculturation of selected senior officers of the armed forces of India and friendly foreign countries, along with civilian government services of India (IAS, IPS, IRS, DRDO, etc.), for higher leadership positions,” the institute said in an official statement.
Faculty members from the Department of Management Studies and Aerospace and other departments at IIT Madras, faculty from NDC and subject matter experts will teach the programme at the defence college.
Eligibility, curriculum
Under the programme, 120 members from the Indian Armed Forces, Indian Civil Services, Indian Police Services and other organisations of the government will participate. They would be selected after a rigorous screening process. The course also includes officers from foreign countries.

While the programme is available to service officers at the rank of Brigadier or its equivalent, it is also open to civil and diplomatic service officers holding the position of director or joint secretary within the government.
IIT Madras iterated that the main purpose of the partnership is to integrate technology-based leadership and policy issues in the curriculum and develop future leaders with knowledge of AI, Cybersecurity and emerging technology applications in strategic decisions.
Highlighting the importance of this programme, professor V Kamakoti, director, IIT Madras said, “The next-gen world needs managers with deep understanding of contemporary technologies. This MBA programme is conceived to address this need.”
