IIT Roorkee, NIH to host second edition of Roorkee Water Conclave

IIT Roorkee water conclave will bring together experts to share knowledge, experience, technology
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (Roorkee) and the National Institute of Hydrology Roorkee (NIH Roorkee) will host the second edition of the Roorkee Water Conclave from March 2 to 4, 2022, which will facilitate a platform for experts to share knowledge with engineers, scientists and other stakeholders. The theme of this edition is “water security for sustainable development.”
The Roorkee Water Conclave is an international event that is conducted once every two years. The programme focuses on water resources planning, design, operation, and management. The first edition of RWC was conducted in February 2020 with the theme “hydrological aspects of climate change.”

According to a statement released by IIT Roorkee, the water conclave will focus on the causes of water security, its environmental and societal aspects such as climate, food, energy, economy, health among others that are required to make informed decisions while developing solutions.
“IITR and NIH plan to use this opportunity to network with groups in India and abroad and work with the central and state governments to help find sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the water and allied sectors,” said a statement from IIT Roorkee
Ajit K Chaturvedi, director of IIT Roorkee said that the water conclave will focus on water scarcity, poor infrastructure, growing population and natural disasters such as drought, flood and storms, and other factors that call attention towards more investments in water conservation infrastructure.

The conclave is expected to see speeches from secretaries of different departments under the ministry of jalshakti, India country director of the World Bank, chairman of Central Water Commission, among others.
