IIT Ropar, RGNAU launch joint PG diploma in UAV operations and drone technology

Indian Institute of Technology Ropar and RGNAU have partnered to offer a one-year diploma programme focused on drone technology and UAV operations
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has signed an agreement with Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University (RGNAU) to introduce a one-year post graduate diploma in UAV operations and drone technology. The programme aims to equip students with the technical knowledge and practical skills required in the rapidly growing drone industry.
The agreement was signed by IIT Ropar director Rajeev Ahuja and RGNAU vice-chancellor Bhrigu Nath Singh in the presence of faculty members and officials from both institutions.
With drones finding increasing applications in sectors such as agriculture, logistics, infrastructure monitoring and surveillance, the demand for trained professionals is rising steadily. The newly launched diploma programme seeks to address this demand by combining classroom learning with practical training.
IIT Ropar launches joint drone programme
Students enrolled in the course will spend the first semester at RGNAU before moving to IIT Ropar for the second semester. This structure has been designed to allow learners to benefit from the academic strengths and facilities of both institutions.
The curriculum will cover the fundamentals of UAV technology while also offering hands-on exposure to drone operations and their practical applications. The programme is intended to provide industry-relevant training alongside a strong theoretical foundation.
Speaking about the collaboration, Rajeev Ahuja said the partnership is expected to boost research activities and create new opportunities for students and professionals to develop expertise in drone technology. He added that the collaboration would help strengthen innovation and practical learning in the sector.

The two institutions have also committed to working together in areas such as technical education, capacity building and research related to UAVs and drone technology. The partnership is expected to encourage knowledge-sharing and innovation in the sector.
