International Women’s Day 2023 tomorrow; Here are how schools, colleges will celebrate in India

NEW DELHI: International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 to celebrate and mark the economic, social, cultural and political achievements of women and raise awareness about women’s equality and accelerate gender parity. International Women’s Day was first celebrated in 1911.

Educational institutions across the world will celebrate the International Women’s Day 2023 tomorrow. The schools, colleges and universities generally organise rallies, public speeches, exhibitions, workshops and seminars on themes and concepts related to women, debates, quiz competitions and lectures to observe this day.

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2023, the University Grants Commission has directed all higher educational institutions to organise events and programmes for International Women's Day. UGC had asked the colleges and universities to conduct the events in the week starting from March 1. The commission said these initiatives by colleges and universities would be a step ahead towards gender equality.

Meanwhile, the ministry of women and child development will confer the 'Nari Shakti Awards' tomorrow, March 8, to individuals on the occasion of International Women's Day.

The directorate of education Delhi organised a cyclothon at Thyagraj Stadium, Delhi today to mark International Women’s Day 2023.

Also, JAIN Online, the e-learning arm of JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University), has announced a scholarship program for female learners for International Women’s Day 2023. Female learners enrolling between March 7 and 11 will be offered a 10 per cent scholarship on the online degree programmes offered by JAIN Online.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham also has announced a similar scholarship for female students enrolling at any of the online programmes ar Amrita AHEAD. “All women learners enrolling at any of the online programs at Amrita AHEAD, its online programs division, would be offered a 20% scholarship on their first semester fees,” an official statement said.

Women's Day 2023 Theme

The theme this year is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”.

The United Nations Observance of IWD, under the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”, recognizes and celebrates the women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education.

The observance will explore the impact of the digital gender gap on widening economic and social inequalities, and it will also spotlight the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in digital spaces and addressing online and ICT-facilitated gender-based violence, a statement on the un.org website read.
