J-K students’ body seeks LG intervention as JKBOSE rejects exam forms of Class 10 private school kids

NEW DELHI: A students’ body of Jammu and Kashmir urged the union territory’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for immediate intervention, as the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) rejected examination forms from Class 10 students enrolled in private schools built on state land.

As per the Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Association, this move by the J-K board has raised deep concerns and left thousands of Class 10 students in a limbo.

Ummar Jamal, the national general secretary of the students’ association, expressed huge concern and said in a statement, "The denial of class 10th examination forms to students in private schools on state land by BOSE is a clear injustice that gravely jeopardizes the educational aspirations of numerous students. This action has approximately affected two lakh students. Without wasting any time, the Board should accept examination forms of these students."

He added, "This decision not only contradicts a High Court order from last year but also raises serious concerns about the Board’s compliance with legal directives."

The situation originated with the J-K government’s 2022 amendment to the Education Act 2002, introducing new guidelines for the use of land and building structures by private schools in the territory. Consequently, the government directed the immediate closure of private schools on state land, instructing them to cease schooling for enrolled children.

Jamal requested LG Manoj Sinha's intervention to address this crisis, seeking a fair resolution to safeguard the academic future of the affected students of such private schools. He emphasized the critical need to resolve this matter promptly to prevent irreparable damage to the education of students.
