Jamia Millia, GIZ collaborate to train students in human-wildlife conflict mitigation strategies

JMI’s new course Communication Strategies for HWC Mitigation is provided by AJKMCRC
NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is collaborating with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to provide training to students in human-wildlife conflict mitigation strategies under the new choice-based credit system course Communication Strategies for Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation provided by the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, JMI.
As part of the initiative, a workshop will be held on February 19 by social anthropologist Mala Narang Reddy, who will teach students to understand the social perception of the human-wildlife conflict. Apart from this, students will learn to use tools for awareness and community engagement on human-wildlife conflict mitigation from Surendra Varma and Sanjay Ajnekar from Asia Nature Conservation Foundation (ANCF), said a statement from JMI.

“Students are learning about the role media plays in shaping public perception of human-wildlife interactions, vis-a-vis various mitigation strategies developed with the help of research and sensitisation,” it said. The students are being trained through role-play, creative exercises and games.
The JMI university has not reopened yet amid students protesting for the reopening of the campus. The JMI university chief proctor Waseem Ahmad Khan announced that the central university would be reopening in a phased manner and the notification for the first phase would be released by Tuesday. "A meeting was held between the Deans and Chairpersons and by next week, a notification for phased re-opening of campus will be issued."
