NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has clarified that candidates who have declared their category as GEN-EWS during JEE Main 2025 registration but do not belong to the same can still register for JEE Advanced 2025. However, they are required to meet the JEE cut-off for general category. The IIT Kanpur has answered the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025 Frequently-Asked Questions (FAQs) on the official website, jeeadv.ac.in. The JEE advanced 2025 registration will begin from April 23.

IIT Kanpur has also clarified that if candidates have declared their category incorrectly during JEE Main 2025 registration, they cannot correct it during JEE Advanced 2025 registration. The category declaration made in JEE Main 2025 will remain unchanged, as per IIT Kanpur.

Answer: If two candidates have the same aggregate marks, the following tie-break policy will apply:
- Candidate with higher positive marks will be given a higher rank.
- If the tie remains, the candidate with higher marks in mathematics will be ranked higher.
- If tie remains, the candidate with higher marks in physics will be given a higher rank.
- If the tie persists, both candidates will receive the same rank.

JEE Advanced 2025 attempts
On November 5, JAB announced an additional attempt, allowing students who passed Class 12 exams in 2023, 2024, and 2025 to appear for the IIT entrance exam. However, on November 18, the board slashed the number of attempts in JEE Advanced to two, restoring the previous JEE Advanced eligibility criteria .
Many aspirants had dropped out of their BTech programmes to focus on coaching for IIT admissions through JEE Advanced but were affected by the removal of the third attempt for the exam.
As per the latest update, the JAB has announced an exception to the JEE Advanced 2025 eligibility criteria, allowing candidates who withdrew from their BTech courses between November 5 and 11 last year to register for the exam.
The JEE Advanced 2025 registration last date is May 2. However, as per the official schedule, the JEE Advanced 2025 registration fee payment deadline is May 5. The JEE advanced registration form 2025 will be available on the official website, jeeadv.ac.in. The Top 2.5 lakh candidates of JEE Main 2025 will be eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced 2025 exam. The JEE Mains session 2 registration 2025 is open till February 25.
