The JEE Main 2023 session 1 exam scheduled to begin from January 24 falls just a week before the crucial board exam dates of some boards. The JEE 2023 exam also will clash with board practical exams. A petition was also filed in this regard before the Bombay High Court. However, the court refused to postpone JEE Mains 2023 as rescheduling the exam at such short notice will have a “cascading effect”.

Assam Boards practicals are beginning from January 25, Bihar Board practicals from January 10, Telangana Boards practical from January 20. All these exams fall between JEE Main scheduled from January 24-31.

Meanwhile, the NTA is expected to release the JEE Main admit card 2023 and exam city intimation slip on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in.

With just five days left for the IIT JEE Main exam 2023, here’s why students are still asking the NTA to postpone January session 1 exams.

The NTA announced the JEE Main 2023 exam dates just a month before the session 1 schedule. Although students apprised the officials through social media about the clash with CBSE Board practical exams, there was no response from the testing agency.

Several students have been also requesting the NTA to announce JEE Main dates three months in advance as they usually do. However, preparing for JEE Main exams in such short notice has left students anxious. Students have been asking the NTA as to why JEE Main 2023 exam was scheduled during the pre-boards as Class 12 board exam 2023 marks are crucial for admission to BTech, BE, BArch courses in IITs, NITs.

Child rights activist Anubha Srivastava Sahai who filed a petition seeking postponement of JEE, in a series of tweet claimed that the government had on November 1 informed that there is no discussion on JEE Main at the moment.

Students started preparing as per their fixed timetable as a large number of students are going to appear in offline exams for the first time after COVID-19 pandemic.

“Pre boards are equally important for these students as now 75% criteria and top 20 percentile was introduced all of a sudden on 15th December. Many students were confused and couldn't understand what to do and we're under a lot of stress due to this chaos,” Sahai said.

JEE Main 2023: New rule

The NTA on January 10 announced to relax the 75% criterion and said students who have scored 75% marks or are in the top 20 percentile in Class 12 of any education board will be eligible to seek admission to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and to appear for JEE Advanced 2023.

“Students are only asking why the exam schedule of such an important exam was not notified in advance. Govt also introduced 75% criteria and top 20 percentile. Those who dropped will not fall under this category and will suffer and struggle,” she added.

“Even if a student will get a good score in JEE after a lot of hard work he or she will not get admission if their state board top 20 percentile is more than 75%. Students from other states will get the benefit if the top 20 percentile is below 75% and others won't.”

Questioning the new rules, Sahai further said, “If any state board will not declare top 20 percentile then student has to get a certificate from the board else top 20 percentile of CBSE will be considered which most of the time is more than 75%.”
