Similar to the previous days, the mathematics section was lengthy and chemistry was moderate. The NTA is conducting the last day of JEE Main BE, BTech paper 1 exam for session 1. Candidates, including those permitted to appear in re-exam, sat for the JEE Main January 29 shift 1 exam from 9 am to 12 noon.
The JEE Main January 29 question paper for shift 1 consisted of three subjects - physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Each subject has been divided into two sections - section A has 20 questions and section B has 5 compulsory questions, each carrying 100 marks. The total marks for JEE Main 2025 paper 1 is 300.
As per the JEE marking scheme, each correct answer will fetch 4 marks and one mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. No marks will be awarded for unanswered questions.

JEE Mains 2025 Jan 29 question paper: Exam analysis
Candidates can check the JEE Main subject-wise paper analysis for January 29 exam and the high-weightage topics asked.
Physics - The question on ray optics “was a little twisted” but other questions were not that difficult, students said, adding that most questions were asked from Class 11 NCERT textbooks compared to Class 12. The section had a mix of conceptual and formula-based questions, requiring both theoretical understanding and numerical application.
Chemistry - This section assessed students' understanding of the core concepts rather than testing their memorization skills. Chemistry was rated as easy to moderate and served as a time-saver. Almost all chapters were covered, with inorganic and organic chemistry dominating, while physical chemistry had fewer questions.
Mathematics - Overall, this section was rated as the most ‘time consuming’ section in JEE Mains session 1 exams. Most of the students found the mathematics section to be moderate to hard in difficulty level. Questions were well-distributed across most chapters, with topics like 3D, vectors, binomial, conic sections, matrices, and determinants being prominent.

JEE Mains 2025 Jan 29 memory-based questions
Candidates can check the topics asked for the shift 1 BE, BTech paper 1 exam, as per the memory-based questions shared by students.
Physics - Two questions each from ray optics, projectile motion, unit and dimension and one question from logic gate, relative motion, fluid mechanics
Maths - Three or more questions were asked from vector and 3D geometry, 2 from integration, and one each from differential equations, matrices, area under curve, circles, limits and continuity.
Chemistry- The question paper covered topics from general organic chemistry, chemical bonding and molecular structure, coordination compounds, electrochemistry based on cell equation, biomolecules based on the structure of complex carbohydrates.
