The National Testing Agency is responsible for conducting Joint Entrance Examination (Tier 1 exam) - JEE Mains. Institutes like NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, and various other renowned institutes offer BTech admission based on JEE Main scores . However, for IIT BTech admission, candidates have to undergo one more passage.
Tier 2 of the Joint Entrance Examination is JEE Advanced . Top 2,50,000 JEE Main rank holders are eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced 2021. It is one step ahead of JEE Mains in terms of difficulty level.
Along with qualifying the JEE Main and JEE Advanced, candidates also have to comply with the minimum qualification marks in Class 12 or equivalent examination. Candidates have to secure at least 75% marks in Class 12 for BTech admission at IIT. However, in 2020 as well as 2021, the authorities relaxed the 75% criteria for IIT BTech admission due to the inability of conducting proper classroom studies.
The Joint Seat Allotment Authority (JoSAA) conducts JoSAA counselling for JEE Main and JEE Advanced qualified candidates. The authorities conduct JEE Main counselling in six rounds.
JEE Main 2021 is being conducted in four sessions. The authorities successfully concluded JEE Main February and March sessions. However, the JEE Main April and May sessions have been postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. JEE Advanced is scheduled to be conducted on July 3 and there is no update on the postponement of the same.
