JMI engineering students win first cyber security challenge
JMI winning team included six members of BTech Computer Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering.

NEW DELHI: A six-member team of computer engineering, and electronics and communication engineering departments of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) won the problem statement in the first cyber security challenge Kavach 2023.
The team ‘HeckerPeeps’, comprised the students from both the departments. The team members included, Husain Shahid Rao, Ausaf Ahmad and Sparash Mahajan, all students of BTech Computer Engineering fourth year, Huzaif Malik, Mohammad Sarfraz Alam, and Shairin Meraj, all from BTech Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Kavach 2023, a 36-hour cyber security hackathon, was conducted by the ministry of home affairs and ministry of education in association with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) and Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre from August 8 to 9.
As many as 3,900 applications were received for the contest, of which 106 teams were shortlisted by problem statements for the final. The project in KVH-017 (hardware forensic suite) included a desktop application which consisted of an end-to-end solution of disk, memory and network forensics compatible with both Windows, Mac and Linux. The solution had on-premises and cloud storage features as well. KVH-017 had five shortlisted teams competing in the final. Nodal centre was located at Centurion University of Technology and Management, Bhubaneshwar, Orissa.
JMI Vice-Chancellor, Najma Akhtar, congratulated the team members and the faculty, and wished them good luck for their future endeavours.
Mini Thomas, dean, faculty of engineering and technology, also took keen interest in participation in preparation of teams from Jamia Millia Islamia. The winning team was mentored by Tanvir Ahmad, and M Zeeshan Ansari from computer engineering department and Bashir Alam, head of the department.
