Karnataka announces fee exemption for girl students in government PU colleges

NEW DELHI: The Karnataka government has announced a fee exemption for girl students studying in government pre-university (PU) colleges, state school education minister BC Nagesh informed via social media.

“The state government has issued an exemption for the fees paid by 'female students' enrolled in government PU colleges,” Nagesh said in a tweet.

In addition to this, the state government has also increased the monthly salary of guest teachers working in government schools by Rs 2,500. “Thanks to the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai who has increased the monthly salary of government guest teachers to Rs 2,500,” Nagesh added.

The salary for high school teachers has been revised from Rs 8,000 to 10,500 whereas that for primary school teachers has been increased to Rs 10,000 which was Rs 7,500 earlier.

Recently, the Karnataka government renamed its education department - Department of Primary and Secondary Education as ‘Department of School Education and Literacy’. The decision has been taken in the context of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, BC Nagesh said.

Meanwhile, two Muslim girl students , who protested against the prohibition of hijab at the university college in the city, have taken no-objection certificates (NOC) from the college to join other colleges, while one was issued a transfer certificate (TC).
