The STEAM programme will be launched to help students in developing problem-solving abilities and making career decisions, the Department of School Education and Literacy said.

The Karnataka government is planning to include robotics and coding subjects into school curriculum by introducing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics)-driven education in government schools, TOI reported.
The STEAM programme will be launched to help students in developing problem-solving abilities and making career decisions, the Department of School Education and Literacy said in the report.
The objective of the STEAM education is to ensure that students are prepared for the evolving work culture and early introduction of science and technology could help children develop innovative ideas, the report read.
The department will introduce robotics and coding through practical learning and as per the officials, the objective is to build rational thinking and boost students’ ability to solve real-world problems, the report added.
A headmaster of a government school has welcomed the step and said the many private schools have included STEM subjects from Class 6 in alignment with the evolving industry requirements, it said.
"Many private schools have introduced STEM subjects right from Class 6 considering the demand they have in the global job market. So, this is an encouraging move geared towards preparing our students," the headmaster said in the report.
In addition, STEAM education is expected to shift the spotlight from old-school classroom teaching to skill-based learning, it added.
The department also hopes to develop skills in students that are continuously being valued in higher education and the workplace with the help of science, tech, engineering, art and maths subjects, the report said.
