NEW DELHI: The Kota district collector has notified the guidelines issued by the ministry of education for coaching centres and asked all hostel associations, operators, student welfare society, and coaching institutes to implement.
“The ministry of education, Government of India, issued guidelines for the registration and regulation of coaching centers. Recognizing these guidelines, the state government has decided to ensure that they are followed in letter and spirit in the coaching institutes,” the collector in a letter said.
The order was addressed to all hostel associations, students welfare society and coaching institutes including Allen, Resonance, Career Point, Vibrant, Bansal, Motion, Aakash, Physics Wallah, Unacademy.
The guidelines issued by the ministry on January 16 stated that the coaching centre will not be allowed to enrol students below 16 years. As per the rules, coaching institutes cannot make misleading promises or guarantee rank or good marks.
The regulations were framed to address unregulated growth of private coaching centres in the country which has led to an increase in the number of suicides, poor facilities, and teaching methodologies adopted. The guidelines were issued in the wake of the over two dozen students’ suicides reported in 2023.
Coaching institute associations, however, have highlighted the “ loopholes ” in the Centre’s guidelines such as online coaching classes and how the age limit of 16 years does not provide clarity for institutes which run abacus, vedic mathematics, robotics and coding classes for junior students.
Recently, the Haryana Assembly passed the Haryana Coaching Institutes (Control and Regulation) Bill, 2024 to regulate the private coaching institutes.
