MHT CET 2025 CAP Round 2 Allotment: 21,555 engineering seats vacant despite 1.89 lakh applications

Over 21,000 engineering seats remain vacant after round 2 Maharashtra Centralised Admission Process (CAP), even though the number of registrations exceeded the available seats. Candidates allotted BE, BTech seats in MHT CET CAP 2 are required to complete self-verification and the seat acceptance fee by August 14 on the official website, fe2025.mahacet.org.

Around 1.62 lakh candidates have been allotted BE, BTech seats through the round 2 Maharashtra Centralised Admission Process (CAP).

As per the data shared by the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell), a total of 1,83,760 engineering seats under Maharashtra (MH), Economically Weaker Section (EWS), minority (MI), Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme (TFWS), and All India Quota (AIQ) were available for CAP round 2 .

Even as 1,89,277 options were filled for 1.83 lakh seats, only 1,62,205 candidates were allotted seats in round 2. Leaving 21,555 seats vacant at the end of the round.

Unlike previous years, the Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Department has announced that it will conduct a total of four rounds of counselling for engineering instead of three.

The Maharashtra technical education minister, Chandrakant Patil, stated that candidates who have not been allotted seats as per their first three or six preferences, but accepted the allotted seat will be eligible to participate in the fourth and final round for upgradation depending on the availability of seats.

MHT CET 2025 Engineering Admission: Number of vacant seats

The online and offline reporting of candidates shortlisted for round 2 will be conducted between August 12 and 14. The college-wise vacant seats will be displayed on August 16. Candidates will be allowed to exercise their options during both rounds 3 and 4.

“Candidates who have allotted other than first three preferences and self-freezed their allotment in Round II through their login must accept the seat and shall pay seat acceptance fees through online mode. Such candidates shall not be eligible for participation in subsequent rounds,” the officials clarified.
