MIT-WPU launches School of Architecture; registration begins for BArch programme

The new school, named after Padma Bhushan awardee architect Hafeez Contractor, will offer a five-year CoA-approved BArch programme aligned with NEP 2020.
Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) - World Peace University (WPU), Pune, has launched the Hafeez Contractor School of Architecture, named after Padma Bhushan awardee architect Hafeez Contractor. The university said the new school aims to offer industry-focused architectural education with an emphasis on sustainability, innovation and practical learning.
The school will offer a five-year Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) programme designed in accordance with the guidelines of the Council of Architecture (CoA) and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Admissions to the BArch programme are now open.
Industry-focused BArch curriculum
According to the MIT-WPU press release, the studio-based curriculum integrates architectural design, building sciences, digital technologies, sustainability, research and professional practice. The programme also includes interdisciplinary learning, industry mentorship, live projects, international design studios and mandatory internships to help students gain practical exposure.

The university said students will have access to advanced infrastructure, including design studios, climatology and surveying laboratories, material museums and digital design facilities. The curriculum will also introduce students to Building Information Modelling (BIM), computational design and immersive technologies.

Dean outlines vision for new architecture school.
Speaking on the launch, Suman Devadula, Dean, School of Design, MIT-WPU, said the establishment of the school marks an important milestone for the university.
Further, she added, "The establishment of the Hafeez Contractor School of Architecture is a landmark milestone for MIT-WPU. Hafeez Contractor's extraordinary contribution to Indian architecture has inspired generations of architects. By associating his name with our school, we aspire to create an ecosystem where innovation, creativity, sustainability and practical learning converge. Our endeavour is to nurture students to be architects designing iconic structures that are resilient, inclusive and sustainable.”
MIT-WPU mentioned in the press release that the school aims to prepare future architects capable of designing sustainable, people-centric and globally relevant built environments through a blend of academic learning and industry engagement.
