A total of 77 institutions have been approved for ITEP courses – BA.BEd, BSc.BEd and BCom.BEd – across the country, offering 7,100 seats.
The National Council for Teacher Education has allowed 35 more colleges to launch the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP). This brings the total number of colleges offering ITEP to 77 and the total number of seats to 7,100. Of the newly-approved, 18 colleges are in Assam.
Ranoj Pegu, education and tribal affairs minister of Assam, wrote on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter): “Assam is leading the nation in implementing #NEP2020. As per the list released by NCTE, 18 institutes from Assam have been approved to offer the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), with a total allocation of 1,500 seats. This accounts for 21% of the 7,100 seats sanctioned across 77 institutions in the country.”
The four-year ITEP, leading to degrees such as BA.BEd, BSC.BEd and BCom.BEd, was a key proposal of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The NCTE recently framed guidelines for 15,000 standalone B.ED colleges to transform into multidisciplinary institutions and launch the ITEP.

Admission to ITEP
Admission to the programme is via a centralised exam, the National Common Entrance Test (NCET) conducted by the National Testing Agency.
NCET 2025 was conducted in April and the results have already been declared.
Sharing the updated list of institutions offering ITEP, the NTA said in a public notice, "The list includes 77 central and state universities/institutions, including IITs, NITs, RIEs, and other government colleges, approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Your NCET 2025 result data will be shared with these recognised institutions / universities to facilitate the admission and counselling process."
