PAU PhD student awarded Prime Minister Doctoral Research Fellowship

Under the PMDRF, Fauzia Anjum Abdul Jaleel, a student of chemistry at Punjab Agricultural University, will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 76,880.
NEW DELHI: A PhD student of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been awarded the Prime Minister Doctoral Research Fellowship under the SERB-FICCI program for pursuing her PhD research.
Fauzia Anjum Abdul Jaleel, a student of PhD Chemistry at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 76,880. She is working on the project ‘Isolation, derivatization of Chilli Capsaicinoid (S) and their effect on biotic and abiotic stress on wheat’. She is being mentored by Urvashi, chemist at the department of chemistry, PAU.
The industrial partner supporting this research endeavour is Nutranta Seeds Private Limited, located at Siddipet, Telangana. Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU; Shammi Kapoor, dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities; and Manjeet Kaur Sangha, head of the department of chemistry, congratulated the student and wished her all success in future endeavours.
PMDRF initiative
The PMDRF is a public-private partnership initiative for human resource capacity building for industrial research and development. It has been recognised as one of the main deliverables by a sub-committee of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry. One of the key recommendations that emerged from the private sector under the initiative is to design, develop and implement a doctoral research scheme under PPP for enhancing trust level in academia, research outfits and industry.

Every year, 100 doctoral research fellowships are awarded under the programme. It was announced during the inception ceremony of the Indian Science Congress Association, in June 2012 in Kolkata.
