Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani to lead task force on exam reforms: PM Narendra Modi

A task force headed by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani will look into reforms needed in India's examination systems, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced via a video today. The government has set up a 'high-powered task force' on exam reforms under technology expert Nilekani.

The high-powered task force committee also includes former ISRO chairman S Somnath, former IB Director Tapan Deka, IIT Madras director V Kamakoti, former education secretary Anita Karwal, and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena. The task force is constituted for the National Testing Agency (NTA) exam reforms.

In a brief video posted on social media, PM Modi announced that the government is taking crucial steps to ensure transparency in the education system and hold the culprits of the paper leak accountable.

PM Modi further added that based on the report of the task force, steps will be taken to ensure the credibility of the upcoming exams.

The announcement comes a day after the Centre agreed to every demand made by the youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which had spearheaded protests over the NEET paper leak, including the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the withdrawal of FIRs registered against protesters.

Centre has appointed Pralhad Joshi as Union education minister, and he assumed his charge today.

Also, Naresh Pal Gangwar has taken over the position of secretary, department of higher education, ministry of education, from Vineet Joshi. Gangwar earlier served as secretary in department of animal busbandry and dairying, ministry of fisheries, animal Husbandry and dairying.

Fast-track court for paper leak cases

Notably, a fast-track court has also been set up, led by a special judge, Anu Grover Baliga, appointed by the Delhi High Court, to deal with paper leaks and unfair means in public exams after PM Modi’s announcement.

The fast-track court has been set up to ensure swift disposal of paper leak cases and punishment for those responsible for paper leaks.
