NEW DELHI: The Punjab School Examination Board (PSEB) has followed in the footsteps of CBSE and decided to conduct two-term examination for Classes 5, 6, 10, and 12, as per a Times of India report.
The board plans to conclude Term 1 exams by December 23 if the pandemic situation remains under control, the report said.
According to the new examination policy issued by the board, the Term 1 exams will have objective-type questions of one mark each while Term 2 will have subjective-type questions, the report said.

The board is yet to finalise the marks distribution for the term exams, the report added. PSEB will upload the sample question papers on its official website soon to help teachers guide students on the new exam policy and pattern, as per the report.
PSEB chairman Yograj said that the board is conducting two-term exams in order to have a back-up assessment ready. “It is wise to have an alternative plan ready for the academic assessment of our students in case of unforeseen situations.” Yograj said, as per the report.
“Additionally, the new exam mode will help students get an idea for OMR sheet-based exam system as the majority of the competitive examinations are getting conducted in MCQ format,” said Yograj, as per the report.
The board has decided to keep separate syllabus for the term 1 and term 2 exams, the report further said.
“There will be no overlapping of syllabus and the final result will be prepared based on students’ performance in both these exams,” PSEB chairman added, according to the report. While he’s hoping that the Term 1 exams will be completed before winter break, the final exam dates will be announced soon, the report said.

A school principal has said that the decision should have been taken earlier as there is less time to complete the syllabus and guide the students about the new exam pattern owing to the upcoming festivals and holidays, the report said.
PSEB is planning to give 40% weightage to Term 1, 40% weightage to Term 2 and 20% to internal assessment, as per the report.
