St Xavier’s College starts School of Social Sciences and Humanities offering multidisciplinary courses

New Delhi: St Xavier’s College, Kolkata, has inaugurated the School of Social Sciences and Humanities to foster a multidisciplinary academic ecosystem at its campus.
The school will provide postgraduate (PG) programmes and research opportunities for various departments in the college’s arts faculties. It will be a nodal point for research and internship opportunities for the faculty and students of the departments of English, political science, sociology, Bengali and mass communication and videography.

The college said the school will identify common areas of interest across departments and develop an orientation towards research among students and faculty members. It will also organise application-oriented workshops to hone the skills and implement related programmes. The students will get an opportunity to connect with a network of stakeholders for their internships and skill development, the college added.
It also aims to facilitate research projects that will be carried out in collaborations with industry and other leaders to provide hands-on training to the students. To meet its objective, the college will organise workshops and seminars emphasising on research methodology, faculty development programmes, conceptualising and creating a multidisciplinary massive open online courses and creation of an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journal.
The school will also design and offer a three-credit multidisciplinary paper, which has been suggested in the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 curriculum. It will work on research projects premised on archiving, translation and digitisation, and developing multidisciplinary undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, is one of the oldest educational institutes in the country. It was established in 1860. It got the status of ‘autonomous college’ and ‘college of excellence’ in 2006 and 2014, respectively.
