Students are biggest stakeholders in NEP 2020: Dharmendra Pradhan

NEW DELHI: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the inaugural session of North-East Education Conclave 2021 today along with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu and other officials in Guwahati.

During the event, they discussed the measures and initiatives taken to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in detail.

“Together with Hon. CM Assam himantabiswa, Assam Education Minister ranojpeguassam, Honorable Ministers’ of NER states, senior officials of Deptt. of Education, Govt of Assam inaugurated the North-east Education Conclave 2021 in Guwahati,” Dharmendra Pradhan said in a tweet.

Calling students stakeholders of NEP 2020, he tweeted: “Students are the biggest stakeholders in the National Education Policy, 2020. The NEP is focused on developing desired learning competencies right from pre-primary, equipping students with 21st century knowledge & skills and preparing our youth to become global citizens.”

About the policy, he said that “The NEP is a unifying factor in stimulating Indian knowledge systems, regional languages, art & culture and in celebrating our diversity and strengths as a civilisation.”

Pradhan said that Assam is going to be a laboratory of mother tongue-based education in the country. “The diversity of languages cannot be witnessed better than in our NE region with about 180 languages being spoken by tribes residing here. The NEP has amplified the potential of language in education.”

The education minister further said that he is glad that Sarma has prioritised key areas, such as education and health and has significantly enhanced the share of government expenditure (6% of GDP) on education.

“Guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, we are charting a roadmap for creating Special Education Zones to bring about educational equity in the country. The immense potential of Guwahati can be harnessed to make it an educational hub for the north-east and the country,” Dharmendra Pradhan added.
