University of Galway appoints team in India to strengthen the educational ties after an increased interest from Indian students.
NEW DELHI: The University of Galway (formerly known as NUIG) supported by Education in Ireland aims to expand in India with the appointment of senior regional manager- south Asia, Anju Singh along with a team in India.
According to the university, over 6,000 Indian students chose to study abroad in Ireland. University of Galway will be further strengthening educational ties after an increased interest from Indian students. The University is offering programmes in business and management, computer science and information technology, engineering, psychology, journalism, global media, hotel management and medicine, while business analytics, clinical medicine and molecular biology are some of the master's programmes provided by the university.

About 80 percent of the university's undergraduate courses offer a work placement or study abroad opportunity to students that are pursuing a bachelor's degree. 96 percent of the university's undergraduate students and 94 percent post graduate students are currently employed or are studying further within six months of graduating.
The international students at Galway University are permitted to work for 20 hours a week only on a part-time basis and a total of 40 hours a week during holidays. University of Galway's initiative to set up an office in India intends to develop and strengthen education relations between Ireland and India.
Education in Ireland is a national brand under the authority of the minister for education and skills and is responsible for the promotion of Irish higher education institutions overseas.
Commenting on the growing interest of Indian students, Education in Ireland, regional manager -India and south Asia, Barry O’ Driscoll, said: “We are pleased that an increasing number of students from India, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, are considering Ireland as their chosen study abroad destination. As a centre for excellence for international education that prepares its graduates to be highly employable across the world, Ireland has emerged strongly as a top choice for international students and has seen a 10% growth in the number of Indian students going to Ireland annually.”
