Tamil Nadu TET 2026 paper 1 held across 222 centres for working teachers; Chennai records 94.6% attendance

Here’s the details of the special TN TET 2026 for working teachers. (Image: Press release)

The Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), Tamil Nadu, conducts the special Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TN TET) 2026 paper 1 and paper 2 examinations on July 4 and 5 across the state. The special TN TET is being conducted for the teachers working in government, government-aided and private schools.

According to an official press release, a total of 61,386 candidates appeared for TN TET Paper 1 in 222 examination centres spread across 38 districts in Tamil Nadu. The board will conduct TN TET Paper 2 on July 5 for 1,67,743 candidates at 613 examination centres statewide.

In Chennai district, 3,575 candidates were registered for Paper 1, which is conducted at 13 examination centres on July 4. For Paper 2, scheduled on July 5, around 10,251 candidates are expected to appear at 38 centres, as per the press release.

The board stated that 3,385 candidates appeared for TN TET 2026 paper 1 in Chennai district, taking the attendance percentage to 94.6%.

TN TET 2026 held under tight monitoring

As per the press release, to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination, authorities established one central monitoring centre and deployed 966 personnel for exam duty. The examination staff included four chief superintendents, 18 flying squad officers, 51 chief invigilators, 51 departmental officers, 742 room invigilators and 100 non-teaching staff members.

“A district-level coordination meeting for all departmental officers involved in conducting the examination smoothly was held on June 29, 2026, under the leadership of the Chennai District Collector,” the official release stated.

Meanwhile, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government, School Education Department, M P Chandramohan, IAS, inspected two examination centres in Chennai on July 4. The official visited SRM Higher Secondary School and Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Government Girls Higher Secondary School to review the arrangements made for the TN TET examination .

He was accompanied by Chennai District Revenue Officer and State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Director N Latha, along with Chennai District Chief Educational Officer Thirumagal, during the inspection visit, the release added.
