NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission, UGC, has filed its affidavit in the Supreme Court in a case challenging its July 6 guidelines asking universities to conduct final-year of final-semester exams by the end of September. The Supreme Court is set to hear petitions on the issue tomorrow, August 14.
Last month, 31 final-year students from various universities filed a PIL in the Supreme Court, demanding cancellation of the examinations scheduled in the middle of the coronavirus outbreak.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is yet to file its affidavit. Petitioners’ advocate, Alakh Alok Srivastava wrote on twitter: “UGC has just now filed its Affidavit in our SC Petition. MHA has not yet filed its Response. During the last hearing, I had pointed out that UGC Guidelines of 6 July & MHA Unlock-3 Guidelines are contrary to each other. But both UGC & MHA have not responded to this point till now!”

MHA has not yet filed its Response.
During last hearing, I had pointed out that UGC Guidelines of 6 July & MHA Unlock-3 Guidelines are contrary to each other.
But both UGC & MHA have not responded to this point till now!
The court is slated to hear the matter tomorrow as, during its previous hearing on August 10, it asked UGC and MHA to file their affidavits related to final year university examination.
The MHA in its Unlock-3 guidelines has mentioned that all educational institutions including schools and colleges remain closed till August 31. The UGC has advised universities to conduct examinations in online, offline or blended mode, which has created panic among students about their safety.
