Live Updates | VITEEE Exam: Paper analysis, difficulty level

What are the key focus areas for VIT Chennai in terms of academic growth and research?

At VIT Chennai, we have been focusing on pioneering programmes in artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, VLSI, cybersecurity, mechatronics, electric vehicles, fashion, law, and psychology over the past five years. These areas represent some of the most in-demand fields today, and we ensure that our students receive cutting-edge knowledge and practical exposure.

On the research front, we have made remarkable progress, particularly in AI and data science, computer science, electrical and electronics, and material sciences. This is reflected in our standing in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, where we have secured a position among the top 200 universities globally in these domains.

VIT consistently ranks among the top private universities in India. What sets it apart?

What makes VIT unique is its industry-oriented curriculum, which is constantly updated to align with the latest trends and requirements. Students have the flexibility to take interdisciplinary courses, which enhances their skills and contributes to our strong placement record, year after year.

Our faculty is deeply engaged in research and encourages undergraduate students to participate in meaningful projects, leading to significant research publications. Additionally, our collaborations with international universities provide students and faculty with global exposure. The experience of our faculty, combined with our strong academic reputation and employer trust, contributes to our consistently high rankings.

What does VIT Chennai do to encourage research?

We believe that research should not be confined to postgraduates or PhD scholars; it should start early. At VIT Chennai, even undergraduate students are encouraged to explore research through mini-projects, technical clubs, and hackathons. Our faculty is deeply invested in mentoring students, and we ensure that they have access to state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities.

To further support research initiatives, VIT provides funding for open-access publications and recognises faculty contributions.

There is significant work happening across various fields. Our teams are engaged in cutting-edge research in AI, fuel cells, carbon capture, material sciences, healthcare, energy storage, electric vehicles, renewable energy, smart agriculture, climate change, and human movement analytics.

VIT follows a Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS). How does this benefit students?

FFCS is one of the most student-centric academic frameworks. It allows students to choose their courses, faculty and class timings, giving them complete control over their learning journey.

We are continuously enhancing this system by introducing more flexibility — students can now take courses from different programmes, gain specialisation in emerging fields, and even explore interdisciplinary learning paths. This system ensures that each student can customise their education based on their career aspirations and interests.

Any changes in the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam or the admission process?

We have introduced several improvements to make the admission process more convenient and accessible. VITEEE now offers flexible exam dates, allowing students to book slots at their convenience. We have also eliminated negative marking, reducing stress for candidates. Additionally, the exam is now conducted at international venues.

Is VIT Chennai integrating new technologies into teaching?

We have been early adopters of modern teaching methodologies. Concepts like flipped classrooms, active learning, and gamification have been in practice for over a decade at VIT Chennai. Now, we are actively exploring the role of generative AI in education, but with careful consideration of ethical guardrails to ensure responsible use. The goal is to leverage these technologies to enhance the learning experience without compromising academic integrity.

VIT Chennai offers specialised programmes in AI, data science, and cybersecurity. Do students gain hands-on experience?

Hands-on learning is a core part of our curriculum. Our AI and data science programmes provide access to high-performance computing labs and GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) clusters, along with industry-standard tools for deep learning and analytics. Similarly, our cybersecurity programme includes platforms for network security analysis, penetration testing, digital forensics, and malware analysis.

The curriculum is designed in collaboration with industry leaders, incorporating real-world case studies, hands-on labs, and guest lectures by experts. This ensures that students graduate with skills that are immediately applicable in the professional world.

Are there any new interdisciplinary programmes catering to evolving industries like fintech, bioengineering, or sustainable technology?

Yes, we are continuously expanding our offerings to keep up with emerging industry demands. Fintech is now integrated into our BBA, BSc (Economics), and MBA programmes.

Biotechnology and biomedical engineering are available at our Vellore campus, though we do not yet offer a dedicated bioengineering programme. Sustainability is a key theme across all our programmes, with research initiatives led by the Centre for Climate Change and Environment, as well as our divisions of physics and chemistry, focusing on energy, environment, and nanomaterials.
