'We may lose rank holders to IITs, NITs': Jadavpur University teachers demand WBJEE 2025 results

Worried about losing meritorious students to other engineering institutes, the Jadavpur University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) has urged the state government and the Joint Entrance Board to announce the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WB JEE) 2025 results in order to avoid delay in the Jadavpur University (JU) admissions.

The association stated that the delay in the WB JEE 2025 results have caused an “extraordinary delay” in admissions to undergraduate (UG) programmes under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) at Jadavpur University.

“Such prolonged delay in JU admission is increasing the scope of migration of talented and expected good rank holders to other states and in other NITs / IITs. The admission to JU-FET is purely based on the state WBJEE score,” the JUTA said in an official statement.

Although the academic ranking of JU-FET is higher than that of most National Institute of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), the delay in admissions may result in the loss of top-ranked candidates, the association added.

JUTA urges government, WBJEE Board

JUTA also claimed that the delays are pushing students and guardians to consider private engineering colleges that charge high “capitation fees.”

“In spite of clear guidelines stated by hon’ble high court regarding OBC reservation in admission to different courses in current academic session, the reluctance of the Joint Entrance Board and the state government are making the situation more and more complex,” the JUTA further added.

Notably, the Calcutta High Court, on June 17, passed an order to hold the West Bengal government's decision regarding reservations under 140 subsections of the OBC-A and OBC-B categories.

Apart from JUTA, a large number of engineering aspirants who appeared for the WB JEE 2025 have also expressed confusion over the results release date. Recently, one of the aspirants awaiting their entrance test scores posted about their ordeal on X. “The admission to different general UG degree courses has already been started centrally by the state monitored central online system but why the admission of UG engineering courses has been put on hold is absolutely unclear,” it said.
