West Bengal CAP 2026: Phase 1 ends with over 3.08 lakh admissions; phase 2 begins July 7

The first phase of undergraduate admissions through West Bengal's Centralised Admission Portal (CAP) for the 2026–27 academic session has concluded and over 3.08 lakh candidates have got admission.West Bengal chief minister took to platform X to congratulate students who secured admission to colleges during the first phase. He also shared data highlighting an increase in enrollments compared to the previous academic year.

"Congratulations to all the students who have taken admission in the colleges, in the first phase, through the Centralised Admission Portal 2026–27," Adhikari wrote. A total of 3,08,793 students took admission in the first phase, up from 2,57,429 admissions recorded during the 2025–26 academic session. Classes for the new academic session will commence on July 7.

He also highlighted a significant rise in female enrollment, stating that admissions of female students increased by 26.45 per cent over the previous year. Calling the trend encouraging, Adhikari said the increase reflects growing participation of women in higher education.

He wrote, "It is very encouraging that admission of Female Students increased by 26.45%, as compared to the previous academic session."

CAP phase 2

Candidates who could not secure admission during the first phase must know that the second phase of the admission process will begin on July 7. "Students who missed out are encouraged to participate in the second phase through the portal, which will also commence from 7th July," he said in the post. Check important dates here.

Centralised Admission Portal was introduced in West Bengal to streamline undergraduate admissions. Candidates will be able to check their seat allotment status by logging into the student dashboard on the admission portal. Colleges and programmes are alloted after considering candidate's merit, preferences submitted during registration, and seat availability. To check merit rank, and admission status, candidates must log in through their individual login accounts.
