World University of Design students develops tourism plan for historic Dhubela in Madhya Pradesh

NEW DELHI: The students of the World University of Design (WUD), Sonepat, Haryana, has studied and developed a tourism development plan for the ancient town of Dhubela, located in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh under a project with the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).
The students of the school of architecture , WUD, studied the tourism profile of the Dhubela region and developed an integrated tourism plan which includes light and sound shows, restoration of monuments, street markets, craft centres, connectivity projects, among others. They believe that the region has the potential to emerge as a heritage village and attract tourists from across the country and the globe.

According to a statement from the WUD, Dhubela has not been given the attention it deserves although it is located on NH39 between the towns of Orchha and Khajuraho, which sees a good number of tourists. “Home to Maharaja Chhatrasal, one of the greatest warriors of Central India and the great female warrior Mastani Bai (second wife of Bajirao Peshwa). Dhubela has a deep rich history to make one and all plunge into but not many know about it,” it said.
The statement claims that there are many historically important monuments in Dhubela, including a Mastani Mahal which is not under any protection. These monuments date back to the 17th century.

“I am very proud of the students and am overwhelmed to see how our university’s principles and values have been absorbed by them. Their report on Dubela is exemplary and I feel that my purpose of making this young new generation of energetic minds work in the right direction has been served. I am geared up to take this mission forward with them in whatever capacity I can,” said Shaleen Sharma, dean of the school of architecture and planning, World University of Design.
