The internship programme was launched by TG Sitharam, chairman of the AICTE. AICTE CCO Buddha Chandrasekhar, assistant director BM Tiwari, co-founder Steve LaValle, regional vice-president of Zscaler India Ninad Katkar and CEO EduSkills Shubhajit Jagadev were also present at the launch event.
The initiative has seen tremendous success as four batches, comprising 1,20,000 students, have completed their internships till now. In the ongoing fifth batch, 50,000 students have completed internships in 12 domains. The internship programme is supported by nine firms, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Palo Alto, and Juniper.
AICTE added that additional corporate programmes are in the pipeline to expand the range of internship opportunities available. This initiative is particularly beneficial for students from tier-three cities and rural areas who lacked such privileges, the council said.
Sitharam said more similar activities can enhance the sustainability of institutions and lead to an increase in demand for engineers. He also commended the efforts of EduSkills for organising industry visits with the support of Juniper and suggested expanding these visits to faculty and students in rural institutions.
The AICTE by offering these internship opportunities in modern technologies aims at creating jobs and fosters entrepreneurial ventures across the country.
